Myra June (Bankin) Beerman

September 26, 1917 ~ March 19, 2017 (age 99) 99 Years Old

Myra June Beerman, "MJ", age 99, of Davidsville, formerly of Johnstown, died March 19, 2017 at Laurel View Village. Born September 26, 1917, in Bertha, PA, daughter of the late Samuel and Ethel (Weiner) Bankin. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Curtis A. Beerman, and by their daughter, Hope. Survived by her children, Lee Beerman (Janet) and Lynn Goldbloom (Alan), by her adoring grandchildren, Michael Beerman; Elizabeth Carl (Michael); Ellen Goldbloom (Josh Kardish); Amy Goldbloom (David Frenkel); and Stephen Goldbloom; and by great-grandchildren, Atticus, and Cecilia "Cece" Carl; Sam, Ben and Rachel Kardish; and Lia Frenkel. MJ was a member of Beth Sholom Congregation, and was a past president of the Sisterhood. She was also a member of the former Conemaugh Hospital Auxiliary. MJ grew up in Revloc, and graduated from the former Ebensburg-Cambria High School, in the Class of 1934. She was the editor-in-chief of the yearbook staff, treasurer of the senior class, and president of the National Honor Society and a member of the school orchestra. She finished second in her class next to Jack Pryce, who became a life-long friend. MJ graduated from Allegheny College, with the Class of 1938, where she was active in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and student government. She was senior class vice-president, serving with class president, Raymond Shafer, who later became governor of Pennsylvania. She met her future husband Curt on a blind date arranged by their parents, and they were married in Puerto Rico, on January 30, 1942. This was the beginning of a love affair that lasted for 73 years. She enjoyed bridge and was an avid golfer, who was especially proud to have had a hole-in-one, which was one more than her children. Most of all, MJ will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, and for being a role model to three generations of offspring, who will forever be the beneficiaries of her love and her kindness. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Special thanks to the dedicated staff of Laurel View Village, in particular the Reflections and Arbor units, and Interim Hospice, whose care and kindness will never be forgotten. Funeral service will be at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., Johnstown, at 2 o'clock on Wednesday. Friends will be received from 1 to 2. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, Rabbi Howard Stein, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Laurel View Village Caring Fund (laurelviewvillage.com) or the Sister Mary Grace Foundation of Interim Healthcare Hospice, 322 Warren St, Suite 270, Johnstown, Pa, 15905 - See more at: http://obituaries.tribdem.com/story/myra-beerman-1917-2017-894217442#sthash.0s8RodC5.dpuf
