Mary Amelia Machtley, 96, Bedford, formerly of Johnstown, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born October 7, 1920, in Johnstown, daughter of Michael and Mary (Guzik) Evanick. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth of 56 years; grandchildren, David Wiest, Tobias Wiest, Kristina Diable, and Addison Koppenhaver. She is survived by her sister, Wanda Rizzo; children, Kenneth Diable, and wife, Romayne; Ronald Machtley, and wife, Kati; Karen Wiest, and husband, William; Melissa Richardson, and husband, Gerald; and Susan Carl, and husband, Thomas; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. Mary graduated from Johnstown High School and worked at National Radiator during WWII. She was a stay at home mom until returning to work at U.S. National Bank. Upon retirement in 1983, she moved with her husband, Ken, to Friendship Village in Bedford. She was a former member of Moxham Lutheran Church, and a current member of Yeager Memorial Lutheran Church in Rainsburg. Mary loved to sing and was an avid reader. She and Ken loved to travel. Friends will be received from 12 p.m. until the hour of service at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Henderson Funeral Home East Hills, 2503 Bedford St., Johnstown, the Rev. Jenny Barnes, officiating.
