KERRIGAN- Martin Charles “Charlie”, 82, Johnstown. Died peacefully Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on October 7, 1934 in Johnstown. Son of Patrick and Anna (Harkins) Kerrigan. He was a graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School and worked in the accounting department for Bethlehem Mining Company until his retirement. Charlie was a member of Visitation Church of the B.V.M. where he sang in the church, including the funeral choirs. Prior to Visitation church, he sang at St. Clement Catholic Church for many years. Also, a member of the Harmonie Singing Society and the Johnstown Retired Men’s Choir. Charlie loved to sing and many parishioners have been treated to his beautiful solo rendition of “Ave Maria.” Charlie, also known as “The Candyman,” was an extraordinary chocolatier, making a mouth-watering assortment of chocolates for any occasion. He surprised people, that he wanted to thank for some kindness, with a box or two of his candy. He was a dog-lover and Mac, Abby and Fluffy, his three dogs over the years, brought him so much joy. He was an excellent cook and gardener and took great pride in caring for his home and yard. He loved traveling, especially to Ireland, and his house was filled with mementos from these trips. Charlie is survived by his wonderful, long-time companion Shirley Machowski, sister Marjorie Krueger, brother James Kerrigan and his wife Ann (Solomon), and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. He is preceded in death by his sister Dorothy, brother Jack, brother-in-law George Krueger and his parents. At Charlie’s request, there will be no viewing however, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday at Visitation Church of the B.V.M., Father John Slovikovski, officiating.
