Shirli (Boland) Bissonette

Shirli (Boland) Bissonette, 93, Westmont, passed away June 12, 2020 in Johnstown. Born February 1, 1927 in Summerhill, daughter of Eugene C. and Hazel V. (Mervine) Boland. Preceded in death by parents; sons, Kevin E. and Kim R.; sisters, Evelyn Gilmour-Miller, and Linda J. Roberts-Sivatko; and nephew, Scott C. Gilmour. Survived by daughters, Leslye "Dee" (Michael L. Downerd), Hartville, OH; and Vicki Bissonette  (Karl Baurys), Aristes, PA; grand children, Todd Downerd (Jodi); Brittany Downerd (Kevin King); and  Christopher J. Atwood; great grandchildren, Chloe P. Downerd, Cooper M.C. Downerd, Travis M. King, Aaron M. King, Justin W. King, and Reagan E. King; nephew, Frederick T. (Dr. Davie J.) Gilmour, III; and two great nephews, Shaun and Ryan Gilmour. Shirli was a 1945 graduate of Westmont-Upper Yoder High School and worked at Penn Traffic following graduation, before marriage and starting her beloved family. She was a 71 year member of Westmont Presbyterian Church where she was happiest singing in the chancel choir for many of those years. She also served as a deacon and lay reader, and was a member of Church Women United, where she was the president for a time, and served on the board of that organization. Shirli served with the church bereavement ministry, writing many sympathy notes to church family members for over ten years. Shirli retired from Johnstown Savings Bank where she worked at the Westmont Branch office. Previously, she worked as a medical secretary for doctors and Conemaugh Memorial  Hospital in the Emergency Department. She was a member of the Johnstown Medical Assistant Organization from 1954 until 1963. She will be remembered for her love of music and theater, having been a member of and performer of the Johnstown Symphony Chorale, Penn Wood Players, BETA Theater Company, and UPJ Theater Productions. She was a voracious reader, and loved to dance. Family and friends will be received  Saturday, July 11, 2020, from 1PM until the time of Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 2PM at Westmont Presbyterian Church, 601 Luzerne St., Johnstown, PA 15905, with the Rev. Dr. A. Rene Whitaker officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Shirli's memory to Westmont Presbyterian Church or Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements are entrusted to John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave.
