Shirley Wagner Obituary

Wagner, Shirley K. (Mattern), 90, Laurel View Village, formerly of Westmont, passed away December 30, 2020. Born in Johnstown, December 12, 1930, daughter of Frank G. and Ruth E. (Holmes) Mattern. Preceded in death by parents and husband, James C. Wagner, who died April 9, 2005 following a marriage of 53 years. Survived by four children, Cynthia Diane Wagner and fiancé Ward (Fulcher), Sausalito, California; James Campbell, Jr. and wife, Susan (Mesteller), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Melissa Lee Hoffman and husband, Jay, Manassas, Virginia; Rebecca Lynn Ecker and husband, Will, Brevard, North Carolina. Three grandchildren, Alycia Jean Ecker, Cory Michael Ecker and William Campbell Hoffman. Mrs. Wagner retired in 1995 as the Executive Director of Talus Rock Girl Scout Council, Inc., following 26 years of service. She was a life-long resident of Johnstown, graduating from Johnstown High School in 1948 and Margaret Morrisson School, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, in 1952. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Westmont; involved for many years as a volunteer at Lee Hospital: Auxiliary President, Hospital Board of Trustees and Lee Initiatives. She served on the Distribution Committee, Community Foundation, and as a member of the Johnstown Quota Club for 25 years. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date. In Shirley's memory, contributions may be made to the Caring Fund of Laurel View Village, Davidsville, Pennsylvania; or Christ Lutheran Church, Westmont. John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. is serving the Wagner family.
