Memorial message for Robert Arthur Roxby April 3, 1930 - December 10, 2023
Robert "Bob", 93, longtime resident of Elton, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family December 10, 2023. Born April 3, 1930, in Dunlo, son of William and Meriam (Moore) Roxby. Preceded in death by parents; wife Mary (O'Shell) Roxby; infant brother William, sister Ann Rose, and brother James. Survived by son Douglas, husband of Marcella (Harrigal), Beaverdale, daughter Jean, wife of Thomas Kohler, Lake Anna, Virginia; son Robert "Bud", husband of Susan (Stossel), Portage; son William, husband of Rebecka (Ehrensberger), Emporium. Also, survived by grandchildren: Sherri Slavick, Mark Roxby, Thomas Kohler, Julie Crandall, Joseph Kohler, Robbie Roxby, Lora Rusnak, William Roxby, Jonathan Roxby, Cody and Hailey Anders. Great-grandchildren: Jordan Slavick, Joshua Slavick, Lauren Roxby, Mackenzie Kohler, Mason Kohler, Marshall Kohler, Caroline Crandall, Baby boy Crandall, Henry Roxby, Nelson Roxby, Waylon Roxby, Brynlee Rusnak, and Brayden Rusnak. Robert was a member of Maple Grove Church, Salix. He was a graduate of Adams Twp. High School. From an early age, Bob formed a strong work ethic and perseverance. During high school he worked summers for PA Railroad in East Liberty, sending his paychecks back home to his family. Following high school, he worked for several coal companies in the area. In 1950, he started to work at Bethlehem Steel Corp in the Blast Furnace Dept. In January of 1952, he was drafted into the army. He took his infantry training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma before going to Korea where he was assigned to the 25th infantry division, Tropic Lightening. During his time in Korea, he was in front of the front lines as a forward observer. He volunteered for this position to earn extra pay to send home to his family. He never wavered in his commitment to his family. The family is especially thankful to "Bob's girls" at Villa Crest Personal Care home and Interim Hospice. Friends will be received Wednesday from 4:00 until time of funeral service at 6:00 pm. at Henderson Funeral Home East Hills, 2503 Bedford Street, Pastor Norm Kaufmann. A military rite will be conducted by VFW Menoher Post #155. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Interim Hospice 1798 Plank Road, Duncansville , PA 16635.
