Richard Cauffiel Obituary

Richard M. (Dick) Cauffiel passed away on November 19, 2020 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center at the age of 90. He was born in Johnstown on February 27, 1930, son of Albert and Maxine (Ribblet) Cauffiel. He was preceded in death by brothers Henson and Bertram (Bud) Cauffiel, by his first wife Jean Rosage and his second wife, Maxine Thomas Kinley. Dick is survived by his children: Jan Zinn and husband Ken of Hanover PA, Richard and wife Lori of Harrisburg PA, and Daniel and wife Sharon of Simi Valley CA; five grandchildren Richard(RC) Zinn, Andrea Zinn, David Zinn, Caitlin Cauffiel and Daniel(DJ) Cauffiel, Jr.; and one great-grandchild, Haley Jean Zinn. He was a 1948 graduate of Johnstown High School. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in Korea in 1952 and 1953 with the 2nd Infantry Division. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant and is a lifetime member of VFW Post 155 and the Korean War Veterans Association. He was employed by Bethlehem Steel in the Fab Shop in Taneryville until it closed and then worked for Airco Industrial Gases in Johnstown and Bethlehem, retiring in 1992. Dick loved all aspects of sports and cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Yankees. He coached youth basketball - both boys and girls - for St. Clements, and baseball for West Suburban. He was an active golfer and bowler, part of the Johnstown Senior League Old-timers, and took special pride in playing for the Johnstown Rams Semi-pro Football team in his youth. He always had a joke to tell. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the American Red Cross.
