Raymond E. Murgas

MURGAS- Raymond E., 86, passed away on July 2, 2025, at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 16, 1938, to the late Stephen Sr. and Magdaline (Haluska) Murgas. A 1956 graduate of Johnstown High School and a proud veteran of the United States Army, Raymond was known for his dedication, quiet strength, and strong work ethic. He worked for many years as a skilled mechanic at Bestform, earning the respect of all who knew him. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Madlyn Trzeciak, Rosemary Cates, and Cecelia Roy; twin brother Robert F. Murgas; and brother Paul Murgas. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 61 years, Mary Lou (Cernak) Murgas; daughter Christine (Alan) Sprankle of York; sons Raymond T. (Lisa) of Duncansville, Stephen (Mary) of King George, VA, Joseph (Tracy) of Pequea, PA, and James (Debra) of Huntingdon. Also surviving are his brother Stephen (Mary Jo) Murgas; sisters-in-law Carol and Cheryl; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Raymond found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially working in his garden. Tending to his flowers and vegetables brought him peace and satisfaction and reflected his nurturing and patient nature. A private family service will be held, with committal at Richland Mausoleum. Raymond will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His steady presence, kind heart, and humble legacy will live on in the lives he touched. John Henderson Co. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
