Philip W. Scott, 97, Johnstown, died April 11, 2025, at The Villa Personal Care Home. Born July 2, 1927, in Johnstown, PA, son of Thomas and Magdeline (Schreyer) Scott, raised by his beloved aunt Mercedes Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents and aunt; wife, Mary Catherine (Smith); son, Thomas; brother, Raymond. Survived by children, Donald (Lorraine Adams); Robert (Marcella Piskura); Margaret (Kenneth Dorian); and Philip, Jr. (Susan Stofa); daughter-in-law Judy (Black), widow of Thomas; grandchildren, Gabriela, Danielle, David (Apryle) Sally (Bradley), Sandy (Ryan) Brad, Jesse (Kayla), Tracie, Melinda (David), Ken (Molly), Sean, Katie (Kevin), Shannon (Frank), Ian (Michelle), and Brandi (Mike); 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Walker (Larry); and brother, Dean. He was a member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral. He worked as the dedicated owner and operator of the former Scotty's Automotive. After that, he worked for Mid-State Tool and Supply in Altoona, PA, as a warehouse manager, and then moved to general manager at Fender Mender Sales before retiring at age 80. Philip was a veteran of the US Army who proudly served his country during World War II. Always the attentive grandfather, Philip closely followed his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities and attended games and events well into his 90's. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren best remember him for his wit, warmth, and good humor. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to The Villa and Interim Hospice staff for the compassionate care they provided to Philip.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, from 4 to 7 PM at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Avenue, Johnstown, PA. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at 10 AM at St. John Gualbert Cathedral, with Father Matthew Baum as the celebrant. Burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA, immediately following the service.
