Pauline Stypula Obituary

Pauline Stypula, 98, of Richland, passed away quietly at Richland Woods on March 31, 2023. She was born on March 28, 1925 in Windber, PA daughter of the late George, Sr. and Ann Charnego, immigrants from Ukraine. Preceded in death by her husband, John Stypula, a native of East Conemaugh, and the "love of her life; and the following siblings: Annie Charnego, George Charnego, Jr., Michael Charnego, Sr., Mary Watson, Helen Chobany, Irene Robb, and John Charnego. Survived by her children: Dr. Elaine Confer; David Stypula, both of Johnstown; Carlene Canfield of Boise, ID; and Jeanne Stypula, of Seattle, WA. Also survived by her grandchildren: Jordan (Dana) Confer of Johnstown; Brittany (Steven) Marchi of Pittsburgh; Thomas (Marissa) Canfield; and Kirk (Emily) Canfield, all of Eagle, ID; and her great grandchildren; Piper, Lincoln, and Lylah Confer, all of Johnstown.; and Sawyer and Finn Canfield of Eagle, ID. Pauline was a bookkeeper for Swank's Hardware Dept. Store in downtown Johnstown, until she met her husband, John, at a Central City dance hall, who played saxophone and clairinet, in a band. They began a beautiful marriage of 46 years on July 15, 1950, full of idyllic, carefree happiness and fond memories. Pauline was an excellent homemaker, and loved cooking, baking, and gardening. She adored her grandchildren who brought the best smiles to her face. A special thanks is extended to the wonderful caregivers at Richland Woods. At Pauline's request, there will be no public viewing. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 11AM at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with Father David Peles as celebrant. Committal will follow in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Beginnings, Inc., 111 Market St., Johnstown, PA 15901 in memory of Pauline. Arrangements are entrusted to Henderson Funeral Home-East Hills, 2503 Bedford St.
