Olga Kohan Obituary

KOHAN – Olga “Ollie”, 95, passed away peacefully with family on February 14, 2019 in Spokane, WA.  Born July 18, 1923 in Johnstown, PA, the daughter of George and Pearl (Malinchak) Glova.  Preceded in death by parents; husband, Andrew; brothers, Michael, John, Samuel and George Glova; and sisters, Ann Febba and Nell Baresky.  Survived by sisters, Justina “Josephine” Kohan, Northern Cambria, PA and Helen Moody, Dayton, OH.  Also survived by loving children, David, Macungie, PA; Michele Brosius, Columbus, OH; and Sonia Ewert, Spokane, WA.  Additionally, she enjoyed eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Ollie graduated from Franklin High School and worked tirelessly for decades as a member of the alumni association.  During WWII, she became one of the American Rosie the Riveter members working at the Century Plant in Moxham for the National Radiator Co., earning a spot on the Honor Roll plaque at the Yankee Air Museum Willow Run Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti, MI. For years, Ollie made friends and worked as a bookkeeper at Glosser Brothers.  Those folks and years of employment provided sweet memories.  An artist and avid crafter, Ollie’s hand painted Easter eggs (pysanky) and afghans grace many of her friends’ and family’s homes.  Ollie was a life member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Conemaugh.  She will be remembered for her multifaceted commitments to the church including St. John’s baking and kitchen crew, teaching pysanky classes, and supporting many other fundraising efforts. In addition to her parish, Ollie was a member of the Johnstown and Jackson Senior Centers, St. Benedict VFW Auxiliary and the Ebensburg Democratic Women’s Club.  She was an exceptionally devoted mother/grandmother/great grandmother and all around “lovely lady”.  Family will receive friends Friday  3–6pm at Henderson Makuchan Funeral Home, 434 First Street, Conemaugh, where  Parastas  will be sung at 5pm.  Funeral begins at 8:45am Saturday at the funeral home and continues immediately in St. John The Baptist Orthodox Church, the Very Rev. Archpriest George Johnson. Internment, church cemetery. Memorial contributions to St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church are welcome.
