Nancy Piatek Obituary

Nancy C. Piatek (Kelly), 82, Geistown (Pa.), passed away March 21, 2026, at her home. Born October 6, 1943 in Johnstown (Pa.) the daughter of the late Harry and Rosella (Foltin) Kelly. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul W. Piatek, brothers Donald Kelly and Lawrence Kelly and sister Patricia Kubala (Kelly). Survived by her children Kelly Hedman, Joseph Piatek, Susan Smith, wife of James, Shawn Piatek, husband of Theresa (Harodetsky). Also survived by grandchildren Paul E. Piatek, Cassandra Smith, Jolynda Dibert (Piatek), wife of Tyler, Zach Smith, Jared Piatek, Nick Piatek, Reese Koback and Cameron Koback; Great Grandchildren Jason, Elijah, Daniel, Nova, Mea and Chason. Also survived by brother, Thomas Kelly.
Nancy's passion was her family. She put aside her own ambitions to raise her family into her late 30s. As a mother, she was a girl scout leader, an assistant softball coach, slipper marksman and reveled in being known as the "meanest mom in Carrolltown," where she lived for over 30 years. She also was the backbone of her family, often simultaneously providing a shoulder to cry on and the tough love needed to lead her children through the toughest of situations, especially as adults.
In 1983, she graduated from Mount Aloysius College as a registered nurse, the other great passion of her life. She spent most of her career in geriatric care helping families through the most challenging part of their loved ones' lives. After her 25-plus year career, she stayed active in health care as a certified nursing assistant instructor at Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center and was a dedicated volunteer at Highlands Health free medical clinic in Johnstown.
In between her passions, Nancy was known as a great friend for many decades to Marlene, Barb, Micki, Patty C and Patty K. And she shared her love for the Outer Banks of North Carolina with those friends and her family, a special place for her and Paul W. for 40 years.
Nancy was a dedicated parishioner of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Geistown. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in his memory be made to Highland Health Free Medical Clinic or St. Benedict's Catholic Church. In keeping with Nancy's wishes, a private reception will be held for family. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10:00AM at St. Benedict Church with Father David Peles as celebrant. Arrangements are by Henderson Funeral Home-East Hills.
