Mildred Hilbrecht Obituary

HILBRECHT- Mildred E., 101, was born November 8, 1919 to the late John and Katherine (Mattern) Mattern and left this earth, on September 15, 2021, to join her husband, Robert, who died August 18, 2006 and son-in-law Henry Streilein. She is survived by three daughters, Carol Streilein of Johnstown, Gretchen married to Donald Hakkinen of Doylestown, Cynthia married to David Snavely of Charlestown, WV.; grandson Jon H. Streilein of Johnstown; granddaughter, Dr. Lauren A. Hakkinen married to Michael Gleicher of Doylestown; and several nieces and nephews. She was a 1937 Honor Graduate of Johnstown High School. Upon graduation, she was employed as a Legal Secretary and Notary Public. She later became a stay at home mom, but held various part time jobs. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was actively involved. She served on both Sunday School and Church Council, and taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was a Circle Leader for 40 years. Also, a former choir member. Served as Secretary of the former Adult Fellowship Group and was a former Lay Visitor to the Shut-ins. She was a member of the Knotty Ladies of Zion, where she cut patches and assembled quilts for overseas relief. She was the only remaining Charter Member of the Lutheran Women's Duckpin Bowling League at Zips Lanes. Also, a former member of the Ladies Day Out Program at the Y.W.C.A., where she helped with crafts and taught a knitting class. She was a member of the Tuesday Fellowship Group at Trinity Lutheran Church and the Singles Group of First Lutheran Church. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, sewing, plastic crafts, reading and crossword puzzles. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Lutheran Home of Johnstown, where she resided for 4 years. Friends will be received Tuesday, from 10:00 until time of funeral service at 11:30 at Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. Michael Van Dyke, officiating. Entombment at Grandview Mausoleum.
