Marie G Fritz, 93, Johnstown, died July 28, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 1, 1930 in Johnstown, daughter of Herman and A. Irene (Hill) Thiel. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Jerry F., Jr; brothers, Herman, Jr., Lawrence, and Joseph; and sisters, Vera Nardecchia, and Freida Hutsky. Survived by children, Jerry F., III (Ruth Cekovich); Susan (Charles Snyder); and Christine (Kevin Smith); 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Marie was a loving mother and devoted wife. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had a love of travel, traveling to all 50 states, and 7 countries. She was a proud career military wife, while her husband was serving in the Korean War, being stationed in Iran, Spain, and various states. She worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance, McQuaide, and McCrory's 5 and 10 Store. Marie was a life long volunteer with a giving spirit, living a life by example. She received a State Volunteer Recognition Award for her volunteering at Mercy and Memorial Medical Center. She was also a volunteer at Roxbury St. Paul's Church, Interim Hospice, Upper Yoder Fire Company's Lady's Auxiliary, and as a Grey Lady through the Red Cross. She received the Lift Johnstown Volunteer Spotlight Award and Presidential Volunteer Award for her decades of devoted service to the community. Friends received Saturday, 8/5/2023, from 10AM until the hour of service at noon at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery.
