M. Paul Carey Obituary

Carey, M. Paul, 96, of Silver Springs, MD (formerly of Johnstown, PA) died peacefully on September 5, 2025. Born Michael "Paul" Carey on January 30, 1929; son of the late Michael F. and Agnes (Scollins) Carey. Beloved brother of Mary Nagel, Hollidaysburg, PA and the late Julianne Shaffer. Paul was also preceded in death by a niece and a nephew, Sally Nagel and Thomas Shaffer, and is survived by many nieces and nephews--Michael, John, Mary, and Joseph Shaffer, Jeanette Sutt, Mary Katherine Blank, Robert, Julianne, William, and Thomas Nagel--as well as numerous great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Paul was a veteran who proudly served in the Army and bravely fought from the front line during the Korean War. He attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree which led to a professional career working for the government, and then the private sector, as an auditor and regulator. Paul loved the work and enjoyed meeting new people while travelling throughout the entire United States. Paul and his sisters (twins) learned to dance at Gene Kelly's Studio of Dance in Johnstown, PA and he went on to teach ballroom dancing at Gene Kelly's and Arthur Murray's studios.
Paul was an avid reader who loved telling stories, current events, business, economics, and he enjoyed following the stock market. He was a bit of a character, gently joking and teasing hospital visitors up until his death. He will be remembered fondly as a smart, funny, and charming man; he will be sorely missed.
Paul's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Jay Boiragee for their unwavering friendship and warm assistance extended to both Paul and his family. It is comforting to know that Paul was blessed with your support and kindness.
Family will receive friends from 2-7 PM Wednesday at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15902. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at St. John Gualbert Co-Cathedral. Committal, Grandview Cemetery.
