Katherine Supowitz Obituary

Katherine "Chub" Supowitz passed away peacefully on December 23 2023, after living a wonderful life of 95 years. Born December 17, 1928, she had a spirit of unparalleled humor, strength and affection. Her zest for life brought smiles to all around her. Known fondly as Chub by everyone, she held many titles; beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, event planner and community member. Katherine leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth and goodwill that her family, friends, and acquaintances will remember for a lifetime. Born and raised in Portage, Katherine married Harvey, the love of her life and got the nickname Chub when they won a pig at a carnival on their first date. As her husband Harvey set up a successful supply company, Chub was a natural fit as his event planner, turning even the smallest company gathering into a memorable event. But Katherine was much more than that. She was the life of every party, every gathering, and every heart. They had two children Beth and Lee, whose families are the proud bearers of Chubs lineage today. Apart from being an extraordinary mother and wife, she also devoted a significant part of her life serving the synagogue. Her favorite pastimes included being a Steelers fan, traveling and enjoying her membership at Sunnehanna Country Club. Even when they spent their winters in Boynton Beach, Florida, she maintained her traditions and roles while enjoying her passion for golfing. Her philanthropic activities along with her husband, most notably setting up a perpetual trust for the Salvation Army, showcases her commitment to help others. A brilliant, vivacious woman, she led an impressive life that others can only aspire to. Katherine is predeceased by her husband, Harvey and is survived by her sister Hortese, children Beth and son in law, Barry Gumerove, Lee Supowitz and Sandra, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. As Chub reunites with her dear husband, her memories and the difference she made in our lives continue to guide us. Services will be held at Grandview Cemetery on Thursday at 1pm, officiated by Rabbi Irvin Brandwein. In memory of Katherine, contributions may be made to the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies at 216 Franklin Street, Suite 400, Johnstown, Pa, 15901. You will always remain alive in our hearts. Rest In Peace
