Karen Hope DeFazio, 78, Bowie, MD, died April 20, 2026, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born February 25, 1948, in Johnstown. Daughter of the late Herbert Franklin and Carolyn Hope (Segel) Beegle. Survived by loving husband of 52 years, Robert DeFazio. Karen earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Pittsburgh University. She developed mine safety training material for the Bureau of Mining in Pittsburgh. She headed the census bureau-wide IT educational services program from 1988 until she retired in 2010. Active in her community as long-time president of the Glenn Allen HOA in Bowie, MD and co-editor with her husband of its newsletter. Charter member of Hope Presbyterian Church in MD. Active in the church program as an ordained elder, member of the choir and prayer shawl ministry, Hopes tutoring program and participated in many of its other events and programs. She loved to travel extensively to Italy, Isreal, England, France, Switzerland, San Deigo and the islands of Hawaii. Loved animals, especially her various dogs, including Dickens, Beatris (Trixie), Rusty and Frankie. Over many years, contributed to many charities that specialized in bettering the lives of both people and animals. Friends will be received Wednesday, April 29th from 9:00 am until the time of funeral service at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pastor Toby Holland. Interment Grandview Cemetery.
