Joyce Confer Obituary

CONFER- Joyce L. (Hoy); 90, Johnstown. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away April 16, 2021. Born May 17, 1930 in Hollidaysburg. Daughter of Harry and Martha (Horner) Hoy. Preceded in death by her parents, husband William D., son Jeffrey (Vickie), and brother Jack. Survived by brother Phillip (Sharon) of Portland, CT, sons Stephen C. (Kathy) of Nashville, TN, Gregory K. (Shirley) of Harrisburg, and Michael S. (Shannon) of Ardmore; grandchildren Jordan, Brittany, Aden, David, Matthew, Hannah, Amanda, Aaron, Ethan, Normandie, and Ava; great-grandchildren Piper, Lincoln, Lylah, Jarrett, Samuel, and Sydney. Joyce graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1948 and worked briefly as a telemarketer and a pizza flipper at Tony's Pizza, and long-term as a seamstress at Mary Frances Boutique in Johnstown. Joyce was a devout Christian who loved to sing in church choirs and to volunteer for church activities. A talented artist, Joyce's drawings, quilts, tapestries, and good hem lines grace many homes. She could play a mean game of pinochle and Canasta, and no one could stretch a budget into a thing of beauty quite like her. Blessed with an unparallel generosity, the ability to make guests feel welcome, and the gift of gab, Joyce knew how to have fun and to bring joy into others' lives. Fiercely independent, her hallmark intellectual curiosity showed via the book always in her hand, a symphony on the stereo, and her smart sense of humor. She had a love for fashion, history, genealogy, good drama (cinematic or otherwise), and though it took her years to admit, animals. Nothing brought Joyce more happiness than a friend stopping by for a chat and a glass of sweet wine, but her favorite times were hosting her sons and grandchildren at the holidays in a house full of food and joy. She always brought her infectious smile and a genuine warmth, and she welcomed all with an undeniable sense of belonging and acceptance. The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Westmont Baptist Church, 115 Jeffrey Dr, Johnstown, PA 15905 or Arbutus Park Retirement Community, 207 Ottawa St, Johnstown, PA 15904. Friends will be received at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 1:00pm, followed by a service at 2:00pm. Rev. Don Rough, officiating. Interment at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona. www.Hendersonfuneralhome.com
