John Robert Marley

Marley, John Robert; 84; Davidsville, PA on September 9, 2025. Born June 23, 1941, son of the late James A. and Helen (Weaver) Marley. Preceded in death by parents; brother James Marley and Sister Patricia (Marley) Dayoob and nephew Jamie Dayoob. Survived by loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Matas) Marley; children Lisa (Adam) Duray of Leesburg, VA, Darin (Kimberly) Marley of Huntsville, AL, and Courtney (Nancy) Marley of Johnstown; Grandchildren Sarah (Jordan) Zirretta, Noah (Emily) Marley and Katheryn (Matt) Weikert; and six great-grandsons. A 1959 graduate of Westmont Hilltop School District, John started his career with service in the United States Navy as an Electrician's Mate on the USS Lake Champlain. After graduating from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, John spent nearly four decades in high school education as a principal, teacher, coach and athletic director at Ferndale and Somerset School Districts. As a devout Christian, John took every opportunity to serve his neighbors, community and even people around the world. Whether by snow blowing his neighbors drives or mowing their lawns, volunteering his time at New Day or as a Southmont Borough councilman, fireman or with the local election polls, John always found time to help others. He even spent many months working abroad helping the impoverished and orphans in Barbados, Trinidad, St. Kitts, Peru, Honduras and with disaster relief teams during Hurricane Katrina and the Cedar Rapids floods. A devoted husband, father and friend, John's most notable character trait was his love of people. His strong desire to serve was overshadowed only by his desire to see others experience God's grace and for them to know His purpose for their lives. Through his life well lived, John influenced thousands of people for good and will be greatly missed.
Friends and family will be received at Henderson Funeral Home, East Hills, 2503 Bedford Street, Johnstown from 4pm to 7pm Friday, September 12 and 10am to 11am Saturday, September 13 with a service immediately following.
