Obituary

John Edmund Frieko Sr., 88, Johnstown died August 14, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 13, 1935. Son of John (Fujko) Frieko and Ellen (Kozell) Frieko. Preceded in death by parents, son Michael P., sister Shirley Frieko and infant brother Richard. Survived by loving wife of 58 years Emma R. (Engbert) Frieko; children Emma (Michael Mikolaitis), John, Ellen (Robert Kyler), Roberta (Owen Winkler), Therese (Jason McKinley), Stephen and Mary Ann (Ryan Regula); grandchildren Abby and Riley Winkler, Ethan and Ava McKinley; siblings Nancy Vajo, James (Cecilia) and Ray (Carol). John was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Church of the Visitation of the BVM. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and hiking, and he loved to read. John also enjoyed cooking and we are going to miss those Sunday feasts. He graduated from Adams High School. John was a U.S. Army Veteran. He worked at US Steel for over almost 30 years as an electrician, and then at Johnstown Corporation until he retired. He was always willing to help his family, friends, and neighbors. He was a loving, caring, generous man and devoted husband and father. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Friends will be received Friday from 6-8 pm at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11 am at the Church of the Visitation of the BVM, Fr. John Slovikovski. Interment St. John Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marine Corp League.
