Herbert William Davis, 96, Davidsville, formerly of Ferndale, died November 3, 2020, at Laurel View Village. Born May 3, 1924 in Johnstown, son of Crede and Anna (Hickey) Davis. Preceded in death by parents; wife Mercedes (Knuff); sister, Phyllis Hindman; and brothers, Robert, Walter, Harry, and Edward. Survived by daughters, Mickie (Barry Mills); and Vickie (Paul Schmidt, Jr.) both of Johnstown; grandchildren, Michael Mills, Pamela (Loren Hauman), Amy Schmidt, and Matthew (Brittany) Schmidt; great grandchildren, Andrew and Asher Hauman; and Jackson and Zachary Schmidt. Also survived by sister, Credene Bucco, Mass. He was a founding member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and American Legion, Windber. He was a graduate of Ferndale High School, Class of 1943, where he was an outstanding athlete in football and basketball. He was a former member of Ferndale Council. He was a retired foreman from Penn Machine Company. He was a WWII US Army veteran. Friends received 2-6PM Friday at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. Funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10AM  at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Angelo Patti as celebrant. Committal, Grandview Cemetery where military rite will be conducted by Chas. Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team. Masks and social distancing are required for those attending the viewing and mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
