Gerald L. "Jerry" Katzenstein, 83, Johnstown, died January 3, 2025, at The Villa. Born July 17, 1941, in Johnstown. Son of Perry J. and Helene (Haws) Katzenstein. Preceded in death by parents, Perry Katzenstein and Helene (Haws); his sister, Judith Katzenstein; brother, Joseph Katzenstein; niece, Julie (Katzenstein) Baker; first wife, Linda (Leberknight) Katzenstein; and second wife, Gina (Sankovich) Katzenstein; son-in-law Frank Kapetanovich. Survived by his loving companion of 18 years, Louise Myers; His brother Joseph's surviving wife, Bernadette Katzenstein; Brothers, Robert (Dolores) Katzenstein and Patrick (Angie) Katzenstein; Children, Beth (Katzenstein) Kapetanovich and Todd (Denise) Katzenstein; Grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley), Zachary (Brittany), Alisha (Caleb), and Samuel Kapetanovich; Six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind special friends Bill Wessner, Jim Rigby, and George Stiffler, whose companionship brought him immense happiness throughout his life. He was a Ferndale graduate. Jerry was very involved throughout the community, his affiliations include Owner of "Jerry's Deli", Ferndale Councilman, Ferndale Zoning Board Member, Ran the Ferndale Jubilee Kitchen for 40 years, Santa Claus for the Ferndale Fire Company, Cambria County Tax Claim Director, Worked at Cambria Jewelers, Manager of the Windber Super Bowl, had a small lawn care service, PA National Guard, Notary public, Justice of the Peace, President of the Fire Chiefs Association, Director of the Salvation Army, Board member of the Cambria County Children and Youths' Association, President of Cambria/Somerset MS Association, Treasurer of M.N.O, PA Fire Warden, PA Fire Patrolman, Member of the Cambria County Borough Association, Independent trapper for the PA game Commission, member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and the Harmony Singing Society. The family would like to thank Windber Hospice and the staff at the Villa for the care and compassion they showed Jerry. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
