Genevieve (Venklar) Mercik

Mercik - Genevieve, 96, of Vinco, went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2023 at Windber
Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 8, 1927 in Parkhill, daughter of the late Stanley and Rosalia (Buczek) Venklar. On July 17, 1948, she married Theodore Mercik, who preceded her in death on March 15, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Venklar and Helen Waltos, and brothers Edward and Casimer Venklar. Survived by children: daughter Gloria and husband Ron Popovic, Bellefonte; sons Richard and wife Rosemary (Kupchella), Vinco; and David and wife Connie (Wojcik), Johnstown;grandchildren; Ryan Popovic, wife Merdith, Jason Popovic, wife Isabell, Mitchell Mercik and finance Sarah Figalora, Julie and Leah Mercik and great grandchildren, Reed, Grant and Charlie. Genevieve was a faithful member of the Holy Cross-National Catholic Church for 80+ years where she was a past organist, director of the choir, member of the Ladies Adoration Society. She always helped with church dinners and fundraisers. She was very proud of her Polish Heritage and loved to sing Polish songs with friends and family. Genevieve was a very cheerful person, always seeing the sun through the clouds. The family is grateful for the care and attention Genevieve received from the staff at Forest Hills Personal Care Home. Friends received 3-7 PM, Friday, August 4th at Henderson-Makuchan Funeral Home 434 First Conemaugh. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30AM, Saturday at Holy Cross Church 811 Johnson Avenue, Portage, Fr. Paul Zomerfeld officiating Committal at the church cemetery.
