PILE- Fred L. (95), passed away January 16, 2021, at Laurel View Village, Davidsville, PA. Born June 4, 1925, in Coleman, PA. the son of the late Homer and Naomi (Zeigler) Pile. Preceded in death by wife Martha (McDonald), sister Doris (Friedline), brothers Jay and Paul, and Granddaughter Lisa Sanford. He is survived by children Kevin (Marge Shaffer), Jill (Greg) Havas and Lori (Rick) Sanford, Grandchildren Mandy Pile Orie, Megan (Matt) McCabe, Marlee Havas, and Great-Grandchildren Samantha, Mackenna, and Karson Orie, and Macey and Myla McCabe. Also survived by brothers Ray and Harold (Emmie) Pile and sister-in-law Diane Pile. Fred entered the US Navy in his senior year of high school and served 2 years in Pearl Harbor. Fred and Martha were married in November 1947. Soon after, Fred started working as a brick mason in the Johnstown area and became an expert at his craft, which can be seen in many homes today. Many bricklayers were apprentices of Fred's when he taught at the Johnstown VoTech School. Fred and Martha loved to go on cruises and enjoyed traveling in their later years. "Friendly Fred" will be missed by all who knew him and will be remembered for his teasing, easy going personality, and dedication to hard work and family. He was a member of the Westmont Presbyterian Church. The family will be forever grateful to the staff at Laurel View Village for the wonderful, compassionate care he received while living there as a resident over the past 12 years. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at the Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Laurel View Village Caring Fund. John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., Johnstown, PA. is in charge of arrangements.
