Evelyn Jean Calhoun

Evelyn Jean (Snyder) Calhoun, 86, of Johnstown, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Heritage Ridge Senior Living.

Born November 22, 1937, at home, in Prospect, Jefferson County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Sarah (Shaffer) Snyder.

She was married to her husband, Dennis Calhoun, on May 10, 1958. They were married for 66 cherished years.

As the last surviving member of her immediate family, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Kenneth, Earl (Pat), and Raymond (Inez) Snyder; three sisters, Janet (Thomas) Haag, Ruth (Chester) Guiher, and Viola (Robert) Stormer; and son-in-law, Larry Layton.

Evelyn is survived by: her husband, Dennis, of Johnstown; three children, Dennis (Kathy) Calhoun, of Dumfries, VA, Lisa Layton, of Johnstown, and Larry (Linda McCleester) Calhoun, of Johnstown; two grandchildren, Luke (Elizabeth) Layton, of Ambridge, PA, Lindsay Layton, of Johnstown, as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was a 1955 graduate of Reynoldsville High School and was a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of Moxham Lutheran Church for over 50 years and was an avid volunteer in the church.

For many years, Evelyn volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother and at the former Lutheran Home as a ceramics instructor. Evelyn loved cooking, baking, spending time with her grandchildren, and going camping with her family.

Visitation will take place at Moxham Lutheran Church in Johnstown on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. A graveside service for family will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Beechwoods Cemetery, in Falls Creek, PA.
