Donald Merritts Obituary

MERRITTS –  Donald Lewis, 96, of Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2022.  Born Jan. 7, 1926, in Johnstown, son of the late Lewis and Rose (Eash) Merritts. Also preceded in death by son, Raymond;  brothers, Robert (and wife Virginia), James (and wife Pat) and Dallas Merritts; brother-in-laws, Charles “Bill” Watt and Robert Kleckner. Survived by wife of 63 years, the former Shirley A. (Fritzinger); children, Donna L., Greensburg and Diane L., wife of Shawn Miller;  Brother, Jack (and wife Sandra), Johnstown; and sister, Lois Watt, Florida; Sister-in-law,  Dorothy Kleckner, Bethlehem; nieces, nephews and friends. An Honorary, 2005,Graduate of Westmont High School. Retired from Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel Corp. Donald, a WWII Veteran, served in the Navy, USS George. Member of Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church who served on numerous committees. Don was a devoted son, husband and father who enjoyed many family vacations. He is remembered as a pleasant and active individual, avid golfer, fisherman, and bowler.  He was an active member of the Hilltop Seniors and breakfast gang.   Friends received Monday May 9,2022 10:00a.m.-12:30pm at Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral service at 12:30p.m., the Rev. Valerie Mize, officiating. Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery, where military rite will be conducted by Chas. Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team.  Family suggests contributions to Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown, Pa. 15905, or The Mary Grace Hospice Foundation, Interim Hospice, 322 Warren St., Suite 250, Johnstown, PA 15905 in memory of Don.
