Donald E. Keiper

Donald E. Keiper, 93, died August 25, 2024, at Laurel View Village in Davidsville Pa. "Don" was born in Johnstown on July 9, 1931, son of Earl and Elizabeth (Dudek) Keiper. He is preceded in death by parents, sister Audrey (Hinton), his loving wife of 69 years Barbara (Barkhimer) and son-in-law Peter Wetzel. He is survived by brother Robert, son Jeffrey, daughters Michelle and Kelli (Wetzel), grandson Nathaniel Wetzel, and his grand dogs Holly, Summer and Emma. Don was a 1949 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School. He enlisted in the Air Force after graduation and served as a mechanic stationed in Japan and Seoul during the Korean War. After discharge, Don returned to Johnstown, married Barb and began his 39-year career at PENELEC. He was Mayor of Geistown from 1962-1965. He was an active member of the former Park Avenue United Methodist Church. He coached his children's sports teams, was involved in the Westmont Hilltop band boosters for 8 years., He was the Quarter master of the local Korean War Vets and a lifetime member of the Elk's. He was also an avid golfer. The family would like to thank the staff at Laurel View Village for the loving and compassionate care they gave Don. Thanks also to his "Visiting Angel" caregiver Connie. Friends will be received Wednesday from 5-7 pm at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 am. Interment Grandview Cemetery.
