David Alvares, 84, Johnstown, died June 16, 2024 at home. Born February 2, 1940, in Johnstown, son of the late Anna (Chubara) Alvares. Preceded in death by brothers, Maurice "Premo", and Floyd. Survived by wife, Mildred J. (Eppolito); daughters, Diane (Greg Urbassik); Catherine, widow of Bryce Natta; Antoinette, "Toni", widow of David Drew; and Michelle; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and siblings, Anthony (Patricia Rush); and Kathleen (Michael Mastovich, Sr.) Dave was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. He was a past exalted ruler of Johnstown Lodge 175 BPO Elks; member of Moxham PNA; Woodvale Athletic Club; and the Union Social. A 1958, graduate of Johnstown High, Dave played football and wrestled for the Trojans. As an assistant football coach he was on Johnstown's 11-win conference championship team in 1988. Dave was the proprietor of Dave Alvares Electric. He served with the US Army 82nd Airborne. Friends received 3-6PM Thursday at Henderson Funeral Home-East Hills, 2503 Bedford Street, where Elks Ritual will be performed by BPO Elks 175 Past Exalted Rulers at 5:30. Funeral mass will be held 12:30PM Friday at St. Benedict Church with Father David Peles as celebrant. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
