Carole Murphy Obituary

Carole Ann (Allshouse) Murphy, 87, of Roxbury passed away on July 9, 2024. Born in Johnstown, she lived a full and remarkable life and was a woman ahead of her time. Carole graduated from Westmont High School where she played basketball. She became a registered nurse upon graduation from Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. As a young woman she travelled across Europe. Carole's first job as a nurse was at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland where, in addition to her nursing duties, she, along with her roommates, installed snow chains on cars in DC to make extra money. She eventually made her way back to Johnstown where she nursed in both hospital settings and private practices. Carole was very active in her churches, leading the parish council and singing in the choir. Her caring nature translated to helping those less fortunate than her. She routinely served at the St. Vincent de Paul Family Kitchen and, more importantly, took her children and grandchildren with her to help, thus passing on a family culture of service to others. Carole married the love of her life, Jack, in 1966 and they enjoyed 19 wonderful years together before Jack passed away in 1985. They owned and operated Murphy's Bar in the 8th Ward. She is survived by five children who love her deeply: Denny (Debbie), John (Maggie), Patty Mitchell (Lewis), Jerry (Karla) and Paul (Cristy) along with nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Dawn). She is predeceased by her grandson, Ryan, parents, Charles and Anna (Baltzerson) Allshouse and her favorite aunt, Martha Shafer. Carole continues to serve others even in death and has donated her body for medical scientific research. The family and friends are invited to celebrate Carole's life from 11:00 until time of service at Noon, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Grove Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was an active and valued member. THE FAMILY ENCOURAGES ALL TO WEAR BLUE IN HONOR OF CAROL. In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, St. Vincent de Paul Family Kitchen and/or Moxham Food Pantry. The family thanks Windber Hospice and their staff for their caring support, comfort and aid in Carole's final days.
