Carol Mae Vitko, age 81, of Johnstown, PA, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 1, 2023, at UMPC Presbyterian Hospital - Pittsburgh. She was born in Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown on January 19, 1942 to Ruth (Allison) and Archibald John Bruce. She married Andrew G. Vitko on November 24, 1962, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Johnstown. Carol was a 1959 graduate of Johnstown High School. Shortly before marrying Andy, Carol worked as a Secretary at Cambria Equipment in Johnstown and then made a lifelong career change to being a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grand/great-grandmother. Carol was also a very proud participant in family events, such as the annual Bruce Family reunions and enjoyed in the planning of a couple Johnstown High School Reunions. Carol was a member of the Oakland Church and the Windber Country Club. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed many memorable golf trips with her late husband and their dear friends throughout their years together. She continued a close bond with women in her golf league on a weekly basis during golf season and for 59 years strong, gathering monthly with her long-time "Clubbettes" friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband and her four brothers, Archie (Jean), Bill (Audrey), Jim (Marion), Dick (Gloria) and sister, Helen Carace. She is survived by her sons Todd (Robin) Vitko of San Diego, CA, David (Julie) Vitko of Altoona, PA, and Chris (Heather) Vitko of Windber, PA; ten grandchildren: Michael, Megan, Natalie, Daniella, Krysten, Chad, Joshua, Zachary, Sydney, and Cameron, and eight great-grandchildren: Westley, Isabella, Ethan, Julian, Leah, Alivia, Wyatt, Levi, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at UMPC ICU, Pittsburgh. Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Friends will be received from 3-7pm Thursday, December 7th at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave, Johnstown, 15902. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, December 8th at Oakland Church, 1504 Bedford St., Johnstown, 15902.
