Shoemaker all of Jefferson Hills, PA; and niece Laura A. (Shoemaker) married to Patrick J. Yaple, Pittsburgh. Graduated from Jenner Boswell Joint High School class of 1968. Becky was a lifetime member of Roxbury Church of the Brethren where she was a Deaconess. She served in many capacities in her church over the years- Kindergarten Sunday School Teacher for over 40 years, Vacation Bible School Director for many years, initiated and was Curator of the Heritage Room, Cathedral Choir member for over 50 years, correspondent to the Tribune-Democrat for the church, former member of the Recreation and Fellowship Commission and had currently served on the Christian Education Commission, and Corresponding Secretary for the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She loved to take yearly vacations with her parents, which took them to all 50 states, all Canadian provinces except Newfoundland, and across the border to Mexico. Her favorite mode of transportation for these trips was by car and different routes were taken each time to soak in as much of God's beauty as possible. The vacations usually included lighthouses, covered bridges, grist mills, and Dutch windmills, which were her favorite man-made structures, but the National Parks were by far the grandest of God's creations. Becky was a member of the following organizations: Society for the Preservation of Old Mills (SPOOM), Lighthouse Preservation of Society (LPS), and National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges (NSPCB). Upon graduation, she started work at the State Employment Office in Johnstown and retired from there in 1999 as a Clerk Stenographer II. Upon retirement, she joined the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE). She was not a person of change- living in one house all of her life, employed and retired from one job, life member of one church, only owned four cars. Her life exemplified the Church of the Brethren principle, "Peacefully, Simply, Together." Besides traveling, she really enjoyed planting flowers, cooking and baking with her great nieces and great nephews, while they were growing up, during the Summer and Christmas time for their sleepovers. Her favorite color was any shade of purple. Friends will be received Thursday from 6-8 at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. and Friday from 10:00 until time of funeral service at 11:00 at Roxbury Church of the Brethren. Rev. Brian Simmons, officiating. Donations may be made to Roxbury Church of the Brethren. www.hendersonfuneralhome.com
