Poet Arlyn Iris Edelstein, 74, Johnstown, died March 13, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 22, 1946 in Johnstown with Cerebral Palsy, she overcame severe disability to inspire all who knew her. Earning her BA in literature from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, she wrote insightful poetry. Her late parents, Nathan M. and Evelyn S. (Lavenson) Edelstein, showed her uncommon devotion. Members of Beth Shalom Congregation and staff and residents of Allegheny Unlimited Care Providers' Ashdale Apartments formed the core of her loving community, personified by friends Julie and Bob Horowitz and caretaker Debbie Hardison. Survived by brother, Michael (Ludmila); nephews, Joel Edelstein (Cynthia), and their son, Max; Ruslan Smirnov; and Boris Smirnov (Mia) and their children, Aliyah, Amin, Elias, and Leyla. A grave side service will be held Wednesday at 11AM at Grandview Cemetery with Rabbi Irvin Brandwein officiating (For those attending, please meet at the cemetery office at 10:45AM and masks are required.).
