Alice Sheridan Obituary

Alice M. Sheridan, 101, Johnstown, died August 20, 2020 at Arbutus Park Manor, surrounded by her nieces. Born February 16, 1919 in Johnstown. Daughter of Joseph L. Sr. and Gertrude (Crossen) Mabon. Preceded in death by parents; husband Paul Sheridan; brother Joseph Mabon II, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge; sister Dorothy Smith; brother-in-law James D. Smith Sr., and nephews James D. Smith Jr., Joseph Mabon III. Survived by nieces and a nephew, Alice married to Thomas Wallace, Jane Smith, Robert Smith married to Donna, Patricia Smith; also great nieces and nephews; special friends Jon Sharbaugh and Rhonda Cyburt. She was a member of St. Clements Church. She was a volunteer Eucharistic Minister at St. Clements and Good Samaritan. She was also a member of A.N.A, Ladies Auxiliary of A.O.H, District 5 Nurses and Retired Nurses Association. She graduated from Johnstown Catholic High School in 1937, St. Francis School of Nursing, Pittsburgh in 1940, Duquesne School of Nursing in 1965 . She had been employed at U.M.W.A and was a chief nurse with the Red Cross blood program. WWII US Army Nurse Corp in the South Pacific. Alice was a faithful Steelers and Notre Dame fan. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her neighbors Frankie, Jim, Eileen, Diane and the Mock brothers as well as Windber Hospice and Arbutus Park Manor for the wonderful care they provided to Alice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Windber Hospice or Arbutus Manor in her name. Due to the COVID19 restrictions there will be no public viewing. A memorial mass will be held Monday at 11:00 am at St. Clements Church, Fr. William E. Rosenbaum, officiating. Those attending mass will be required to wear a mask and social distance. John Henderson Company Funeral Home is serving the family.
