William McCauliff Obituary

McCauliff- William Allen “Bill,” passed away at home on January 19th at the age of 76. Beloved husband of 44 years to Elaine (Johnson) of Johnstown, dear father of Erin, husband Matthew Gentzel, and loving “Pap” of Isla and Paige. Bill was born on December 5th, 1943 in Johnstown, to the late William and Marion Millar. He was adopted at age 2 by the late Robert and Elizabeth McCauliff, who lovingly raised him, along with his late sister, Bette Jane Poltrack. He had wonderful memories of growing up on his family’s dairy farm. Bill was a 1961 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown, with a degree in Psychology. He was a navy veteran and treasured his experiences as a corpsman on the USS Frank Knox. Bill was formerly employed by Bethlehem Mines and Steel and retired from the Cambria County Agency on aging. A true outdoorsman, Bill spent much of his life and retirement in the woods. He delighted in his granddaughters and enjoyed reading to them and letting them win at checkers. Bill will be remembered for his quiet sense of humor, his many “Bill-isms,” and taking care of his family. He is survived by his loving family, including two sisters, Barbara Gansz and Billie Ann Hoffman, both of Georgia. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where friends and family will be received from 10-12 on Friday, January 24th, followed by a service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 246 Chandler Ave., Johnstown, PA 15906. www.hendersonfuneralhome.com
