Russell Roland Alkire, Jr.

Russell Roland Alkire Jr. ,87, of Bokeelia, FL (formerly of Southmont, PA) passed peacefully on January 24, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Martins Ferry, OH, October 14, 1930.  He Is preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Mary Elizabeth Alkire  (formerly Betty Rowland), and his son Ross Rowland. He is survived by his second wife of 20 years, Marjorie Teel DeJong and children Debra Tralee Cussen of Cape Coral, FL, sons Russell Roland, III of Brevard, NC, Markus Rowland of New York, NY, brothers Ronald and Jerry, sister Cindy Sakmar, grandchildren Aubree, Brittni, Alaina, and Devon, and many great grand-children, nieces and nephews. Mr. Alkire served in the United States Navy 1948-1952 during the Korean War. He worked and retired from Bethlehem Steel Company, Johnstown, PA. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He loved hunting, fishing and golf. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and loved spending time in the sun, and on the water. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Disabled American Veterans.
