Richard McHenry, “Dick”, “Mack”, 87, Windber, passed quietly December 23, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by loving family members, and was received into the arms of his Lord. He was born December 4, 1930, in Johnstown, son of Gilbert and Kathleen (Mansfield) McHenry. His mother died during child birth. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by the family who took him in and raised him. They include his step parents, George and Roberta (Mansfield) Tressler; brothers, George “Bud”, Jr., and Earl Tressler; and sisters Edith and Betty Tressler. He was the devoted husband of 58 years of June (Berkey) McHenry; a proud and loving father of Patrick (Karen), Syracuse, NY; and Kathleen Layo (Richard), Allison Park; and grandfather of Daniel and Kimberly McHenry; and Samantha and Derek Layo. Brother of birth sister , Maxine Woomer, Wilmington, DE. Mack was an active member of Scalp Level Trinity UM Church, and former member of Bethel UM Church in Salix, and Coalport UM Church. He was a long-time member of Beaverdale Lions Club, Portage Rod and Gun Club, Spruce Hole Hunting Camp, and Daisytown Sportsmen’s Club. Dick was also a board member and long-time credit committee member of CBW Credit Union, and a volunteer at Memorial Medical Center for 27 years. Mack was a retired educator with service at South Fork High School, Triangle Area High School, and Forest Hills Junior High School. He was a US Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Strong (DD-758) during the Korean Conflict. Mack was a fun loving, great story teller who was well loved, and touched many people  in so many ways. He will be greatly missed , but will live on in our hearts, and in who we are , because we had him in our lives. A memorial service to celebrate his home-going will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 11am at Scalp Level Trinity UM Church, 751 Horn Road, Windber. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Scalp Level Trinity UM Church. Mack made it to Heaven just in time for lunch! Goodbye, Love. Goodbye, Dad. Goodbye, Pap. Goodbye, Grampa. We’ll see you again before too long. Tell Jesus a few stories in the meantime, okay? The McHenry Family is being served by John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave.
