Raymond G. Asfar

Asfar, Raymond G., 84, Johnstown, passed away October 21,2017 at his residence. Born August 23, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. Son of the late Shookry and Rose (Najar) Asfar. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by children; Christine George (Steve) of Johnstown, Gregory Asfar (Lisa Weaver) of Oakland, CA, Raymond Michael Asfar (Kayla Maul) of Portage; grandchildren Jesse George, Leo Asfar, Shawn Asfar, Mark Asfar, and Raymond R Asfar: brother Donald of FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and former wife Maryann (Unis) Asfar of Portage. He was brought up and a supporter of Assyrian Orthodox Church of Virgin Mary, Paramus, NJ. Member of St. Mary Antiochian Church, Damascus #867, Laurel Highlands Bowling Association, Korean War Vets, Communication Workers of America, Johnstown Typographical Union, Retired Men's Club in Johnstown, Johnstown Umpires Association, PIAA, and the Breakfast Club with his special friends Tom and Mark. Life membership of YMCA, Johnstown, Athlete of the Year Award. Raymond was active and a sponsor of many teams at Westmont Lanes. Also, he was an usher at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. Prior to ownership of Conemaugh Engraving Company and Raymur Cold Type, he graduated from Midwood High School and Brooklyn College. He is a Korean Conflict Combat Veteran having served in the Navy from 1952 - 1956. Friends will be received Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 all at St. Mary Antiochian Church. Very Rev. Father Donald Shadid. Entombment Grandview Mausoleum.
