Lois M. Dunford, 85, born on January 23, 1934 passed away on July 31, 2019. Born in Johnstown, PA, to Hurl and Marie (Shaffer) Gohn, who welcomed her to Heaven along with her beloved husband, Walter (a.k.a., Wally, Sporty). Also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Paul McKowan and infant sister. Survived by her sister, Phyllis McKowan and spouse, Richard Dadonna. Her memory will be cherished by her extended family, including cousin Mary Suzanne Basso and adopted family, led by Ruth (Joe) Corle. She was also “sister-friend” to best friends and travel mates, Polly Strayer and Elsie Fetterman, whose children and grandchildren were like her own. Also cherished by neighbors and friends, George and Kathy Tighe. She was a 1952 graduate of Ferndale High School and had retired from Bethlehem Steel as a bookeeper. Lois was strong in her Christian faith and was a member of Oakland UMC. She traveled extensively across the U.S and beyond. Lois was an avid golfer and a former member of Windber Country Club. She was a member of Elks Lodge #175 in Geistown. She will be remembered for her fashion sense, sassy wit, glass crafts, beautiful flower gardens, glass clown collection, and knowing or having a connection to nearly everyone upon meeting them. Friends received 2-6PM Sunday at Henderson Funeral Home-East Hills, 2503 Bedford St. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday at Oakland United Methodist Church, Pastor Randy Bain officiating, followed by entombment at Grandview Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lois’s memory can be made to the Building Fund at Oakland UMC, 1504 Bedford St., 15902.
