Lois Callahan Obituary

Lois R. Callahan, 97, of Stoystown formerly of Dale Boro, Johnstown passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son in law. Born July 29, 1922 to Allen H. and Edna R. (Gindlesperger) George in Johnstown. Preceded in death by parents, husband, Glen R. Callahan (1988) whom she met at Arbutus Park campground in 1939, infant daughter Karen R., and brother, Howard A. George. Survived by children: Kitty M. Callahan, Johnstown, Janet E. (Samuel Stroscio), Stoystown and Glen Wayne Callahan (Deborah Brlansky), Harrisburg.  Grandchildren: Rosa L. (Jay Henry), Johnstown, Ruth E. Tuise (James Confair), Harrisburg, and Rebecca L. (Nate Linn), Harrisburg.  Great grandchildren: Samantha, Shannon, Jaylen and Tristan. Also survived by step grand daughter, Melissa Robinette and great grandsons Jesse and Joshua Robinette, NC; sister-in-law, Thelma (Callahan) Wisor, FL. On August 16, 1941 she married Glen R. Callahan of Roxbury, Johnstown.  Mr. Callahan’s brother the late Rev. Charles C. Callahan Jr., officiated their wedding in Troutville, Clearfield County. Lois was a 1940 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School and a longtime member of Beulah United Methodist Church in Johnstown.  She volunteered for the Cambria County Library and Johnstown Senior Center and was a member of the 40th Club. She enjoyed being with family and friends, cooking, sewing, Jeopardy and never missed a Pirate game on TV. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Beulah United Methodist Church. At the request of Lois, there will be no viewing.  A memorial service will be held Saturday September 14 at 1:00 pm at Beulah UM church, 716 Bedford Street. Interment Richland Cemetery. Family being served by John Henderson Funeral Home, 215 Central Avenue, Johnstown.
