John Matas, 93, Johnstown, died September 16, 2019 at his home. Born April 29, 1926 in Johnstown, son of Karl and Mary (Rusnak) Matas. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Mildred Burda, Mary Fabry; brother, Joseph Matas. Survived by wife of 66 years, Esther L. (Keener); children, Roxanne married to Thomas Young, John Douglas, Melanie married to Stephen Clark, Tania married to Raymond Fabina; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grand children; four sisters; eight brothers. He attended Oakland United Methodist Church. He loved to read his bible. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing and playing chess with family members whom he loved spending time with. He was a fixer. An U.S. Army Veteran having served in India. John retired from the Postal service. Friends will be received Thursday from 10:00 am until 11:30 am at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. A funeral service will follow at noon at Oakland United Methodist Church, Pastor Randy Bain. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by VFW Menoher Post 155.
