Janice Eilene (Johnson) Bischof, 63, Johnstown, returned to her heavenly home on August 11, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 10, 1954 in Bellefonte daughter of James E. and Betty E. (Wilson) Johnson,. Preceded in death by parents and father-in-law Herbert J. Bischof. Survived by loving husband of 38 years, David, daughter Kelly Eilene (Scott Lashinsky); and son Jacob David, Miami, FL, special mother-in-law, Donna M. Bischof, Springhope; brothers Jim (Linda) Johnson, Portage; Angus Johnson, Arizona; Tom (Rick) Johnson,MD, brothers-in-law Gig (Sue) Bischof MannsChoice, Scott (Lisa) Bischof, Springhope; Craig (Deena) Bischof, Bedford; and sister-in-law Karen Bischof, Bedford. Janice will be sadly missed by her three grandchildren Addison (8), Brielle (4), and Dane (3) along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jan attended Portage Area School District (1972) and graduated from University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (1976) with a degree in Elementary Education. On August 11, 1979, she married David G. Bischof. Jan spent some of the best 35 years of her life laughing and teaching at Central Cambria Elementary School positively impacting many children and families. She will be fondly remembered for her classroom carnival and Mother’s Day play.For 30 years Dave and Jan enjoyed traveling “down the shore” to NJ and spending time at their cabin in Bedford. They loved walking their furbaby, Macy, at Highland Park. Jan traveled the world and enjoyed her monthly dinners with numerous circles of friends. She was a dear friend to many, known for her quick wit and beautiful smile. She had the ability to make everyone feel like the “most beautiful and special person” in the world.

Her grandchildren were her “whole world”. She authored a children’s book How The Tent Became A Castle capturing the memorable sleepovers spent at MaJan’s and PappyDave’s house. Her creativity and imagination captured their hearts while she played school, house, and baseball.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Highland Library or Central Cambria Elementary School Library in her memory. Jan’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the Interim Hospice Team (Heidi, Sandy, Brittney, Kayla, Tabatha, Stephanie) for their guidance, support, and expertise.Friends received from 2 until 8pm Sunday  at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral mass will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with Father Bernard Karmanocky, O.F.M. as celebrant. Committal, St. Joseph Cemetery.
