Helen Petrosky Obituary

Petrosky – Helen I., 91, Johnstown, died peacefully on January 28, 2018.  Born July 12, 1926, in Johnstown.  Preceded in death by her loving husband, James J., parents, Norbert and Regina (Fitzpatrick) Wolfhope; sisters, Mary Louise Byer and Kathleen Wolfhope. Survived by her devoted sister, Patricia Wolfhope;    daughters: Patricia, married to Cary Jones, Pasadena, MD; Diane, married to Stephen Wilson, Johnstown; Nancy, married to Ernest Fetzer, Johnstown; and Bonnie, married to Pete Schnably, Bridgeport, WV;  sons: James, married to Becky (Jedrzejek), Johnstown; and John, Johnstown; grandchildren:  Jennifer (Jones), married to James O’Sullivan; Todd Fetzer, married to Heidi (Knight); Jamie Schnably; Carrie Jones, and partner Donald Kessler; Casey (Schnably), married to Matthew Stroud; Amber (Schnably) and ex-husband, Tommy Bailey; Dana Wilson; Jill (Fetzer), married to Josh Brant; Ashley (Petrosky), married to Jason Spaid; and David, married to Elizabeth (Neeland);  great-grandchildren:  Kate and Sandra O’Sullivan; Abigail and Noah Spaid; Addison and Emma Fetzer; Camden and Colton Brant; Charlotte Fetzer; Henri Jowaisas; Donny and Georgia Helen Stroud; and Bella and Joy Bailey; and 13 nieces and nephews.  A 1944 graduate of the former Johnstown Catholic High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society and drum majorette.  Employed by the U.S. Department of the Census in the 1940’s-50’s; retired from the Department of Mine Safety Enforcement after 40 years of service as a clerical supervisor.  She loved dancing on Saturday nights with her husband and large circle of friends.  She was a member of Flood City Bowmen and won many trophies.  She and her sister, Patricia, were avid bowlers for decades.  Yearly summer vacations were spent with her husband and daughter’s family fishing for flounder in  Chincoteague, Virginia, where she always won the award for landing the first fish.  She was a fan of many sports, but most enjoyed attending her grandsons’ football games, both home and away, and cheering on the Steelers.  Bingo with her sister and daughter brought her much joy on countless weekend evenings.  Her favorite hobby, however, was reading books.  Traveling with her husband on the back of his motorcycle took them as far south as the Florida Keys.  They also enjoyed far-flung trips to the Bahamas, California, Australia, and Hawaii. She was deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother.  She concentrated on providing excellent guidance, wisdom, and love to her 6 children, preparing each of them to successfully and lovingly raise families and to prosper and grow where they were planted. Each one was devoted to her well-being and brought their varied talents to bear on her behalf.  The family would like to express sincere thanks to all of Mother’s caregivers, both in her home and at Arbutus Park Manor, and especially her son who visited her and laughed with her every day.  Friends will be received Wednesday from 3-7 pm at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 609 Park Ave., Johnstown, Rev. Walter Moll.  Committal, St. Joseph Mausoleum.  Donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. www.hendersonfuneralhome.com
