Elizabeth “Betty” Marky, 92, Ligonier, died October 14, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her caregivers, who were her friends. She was born October 14, 1926, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Lawrence and Margaret (Patete) Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew G. Marky. She is survived by cousins, Sandra Hull, CA; Larry Martin, Apollo; and James Martin, MD; and her longtime friend and care giver, Susan Dominick. She was a member of St, John Gualbert Cathedral, and a 1948 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Historical Society of Ligonier, a member of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art for 18 years, where she served as vice president for 6 years, was a writer for Johnstown Observer, and was a restaurant critic for the Pittsburgh Magazine. She had worked in publicity at St. Vincent College for 3 years, worked as a case worker for PA Department of Assistance, and was owner of the Purple Martin Antique Shop in Ligonier for 20 years. Earlier in life, she took dance lessons from Gene Kelly. Friends will be received from 3 to 8 pm Monday, and Tuesday from noon until the time of service 1 pm at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., with Rev. John E. Flower, Jr. officiating. Graveside committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Heartland Hospice for the extraordinary care given to Betty.
