Glory caught her breath and turned her face into a radiant smile on Good Friday, April 19, 2019. Less than an hour later, Dorothy Jean Earl Morris crossed the chasm between earth and Heaven to be with Jesus, her parents Dr. LeRoy DeLong and Antoinette Willson Earl, her brothers Harris, Richard, Robert (Bobby), John (Jack), Paul Earl and her sisters Jane Earl Rigsbee and Barbara Earl Guinta, and her husband, Rev. Henry A Morris. All five of Dorothy’s children—Ruth Ann, wife of Robert Moore, Lois Elaine, wife of Joseph Howanec, Keith Alan Morris, married to Dr. Marie (Schuessler), Ronald Jay Morris, and Karen Lynne, married to Dr. Michael Moriarty—loved her into glory with the Lord she has loved all her 88 years, and rejoiced at her new life, free from over thirty years of constant pain. Dottie was born in Plattsburg NY in 1931, met Hank at Houghton College and gained her Mrs. degree in the back yard of her West Chazy NY home on a September afternoon in 1951. They were in pastoral ministry together for forty years before retiring to their Brownstown home in 1991. Dorothy’s grandchildren include Nancy, Jeannie, Jesse, Alex, Amanda, Sophia, Tirzah, and Sarah, and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Thomas Earl, three sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy lived zestfully, played roughly—a self-described tomboy whose strength tested her sons up to the end, served joyfully, and creatively stretched pennies for the good of her family. She was a dedicated wife, creative homemaker; skillful baker and seamstress; and a joyful friend who played with her kids in the rain. Most of all, she will forever be known for her powerful persistent prayers, her smile through pain, and for her deep love of her Lord Jesus Christ. Friends will be received from 10:00 until time of funeral service at 1:00 on Saturday at Oakland United Methodist Church, 1504 Bedford St., Pastors Valerie Mize and Ruth Ann Moore. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
