Andrew M. Kohan

KOHAN - Andrew M., "Andy", 94, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2018 at Kensington Place, Columbus, OH. Born June 19, 1924 in St. Benedict, PA, the son of Nicholas and Anna (Lechminek) Kohan. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Ann, Mary, and Catherine Weitbrecht; and brothers, William, John, Peter, Michael, Joseph, Stephen and Nicholas Kohan.  Survived by sister, Helen Whiteford, Ebensburg. Also survived by loving wife of 71 years, Olga (Glova) Kohan and children, David, Macungie, PA, Michele Brosius, Columbus, OH and Sonia Ewert Spokane, WA.  Additionally, he had 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Andy enjoyed a long, 40 year, career as a sales manager with multiple concrete companies.  He was an avid golfer, hunter and Steeler fan. As a young man he joined the Civil Conservation Corps before enlisting in the US Navy. During WWII, he served as a radioman on the USS Knight.  Upon honorable discharge as a decorated Naval veteran, he attended Rochester Institute of Technology where he earned an associate degree in business.  He and Ollie returned to Johnstown where they lived for 67 years. He was a life member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Conemaugh as well as St. Benedict VFW and American Legion posts in Parkhill and St. Benedict. Family will receive friends Friday, December 14 from 8am until 9 am. at Henderson Makuchan Funeral Home, 434 First Street, Conemaugh . Funeral begins at 9 am with a brief service at the funeral home and continuing immediately in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, the Very Rev. Archpriest  George Johnson.  Internment, St. John's Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by members of VFW Post 155 Ritual Team.
