Olga (Matala) Axmacher of Johnstown passed away on February 22, 2023 at UPMC
Altoona. Olga was born on June 27, 1932, the daughter of Wasyl and Eva Matala.
Olga was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who placed everyone around
her first. She was a devout member of St. John's Orthodox Church in East Conemaugh.
She attended East Conemaugh High School and played clarinet in the marching band.
Olga worked selling shoes at different stores in her earlier years, but her favorite job was working at Toy Ladies in Johnstown for many years. Olga and Benny were avid Duck Pin Bowlers. She won many trophies over the years, not only locally, but in Canada as well. Olga always said she had no artistic talents but was convinced to join a ceramics class. It quickly became a hobby she loved, winning1st prize for several creations in a number of Pennsylvania Ceramics Shows. Olga and Benny shared their love of ice cream enjoying their nightly cones together. They also loved to dance at many outings they attended. Olga will be reunited with her husband of 68 years, our father, Benny, her mother and father, Eva and Wasyl Matala, her sisters, Ann, Josephine (Chris), Nellie, Mary, Kay and brother John, granddaughter Teri and grandson Jeff all who proceeded her in death. She is survived by daughter Deborah (Bud McAdams), sons, Jeff, Greg and Tim, great grandsons Austin and Ayden. Friends received 3-6PM Monday at Henderson-Makuchan Funeral Home, 434 First St., Conemaugh, where Parastas will be sung at 4:15PM. Funeral service will begin 9AM Tuesday at the funeral home, and continue immediately at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church with the Very Rev Arch-priest George Johnson. Interment, church cemetery. Donations can also be made to the Alzheimer's Association in tribute to Olga and
Benny Axmacher.
