Zilch, Mary Jane (Scott), 80, of Daisytown. Born August 29,1937 in Daisytown, died at home, all within a half block of her birth house and current home. Preceded in death by parents; John “Jack”, "Scottie" and Ruth (Dinehart) Scott; husband, Charles E.; daughter, Joyce Ann and grandson Jason David Wingard. Survived by daughters, Barbara (Craig) Wingard of Salix and Debra of Daisytown; granddaughters, Dr. Melinda (Matthew) Miller of Pittsburgh, Kristen (Justin) Kalanish of Windber; great grandson Bennett Charles Kalanish; loving pet and ice cream buddy Bella Rose. Former member of Zion Lutheran Church and current member for 50 years at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mary Jane and her family were very active members at Trinity church from the “Happenings Group” to the leader of Bible school, hospital and home bound visits, cooking for Advent workshops, Easter sunrise services, leading TFG, singing in the Men and Wives choir (then Chancel choir). During the 1977 flood she and Charles were a part of the “SOLE” committee, where they walked everywhere to check on members of the church. Member of JHS graduating class of 1955. She continued to be very active with classmates known as the “Tuesday Lunch bunch”. They got together once a month during good weather for lunch, laughter, friendship and fellowship. Mary Jane enjoyed attending the yearly class picnic. Mary Jane worked at Mercy hospital in the OR until she started a family with Charles. She was a caregiver to many including her parents, mother Zilch, Mom Lintner (a neighbor), Bud and Marg Lintner and her daughter Joyce from the age of 9, who suffered from kidney issues. She was a Brownie leader in Daisytown and known for her Halloween parties. Mary Jane, better known as Mrs. Z or Gamel was very involved with Conemaugh Valley Band boosters and with her granddaughters at Forest Hills. She helped make Gobs for each home game for the trumpet section of the Pitt band. Mary Jane LOVED to decorate for ALL holidays and not one was more special than the other. She loved to go junking, farmers markets, apple orchards and the Strip in Pittsburgh. She was the most caring, loving person to everyone she knew and she always looked for the good in people. “It’s not what you own that makes the person, it is what you give from your heart and do that makes the person.” Friends will be received Sunday from 1-4 and 6-8 pm at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where a funeral service will be held Monday at 11 am, nephew, Pastor John P. Galliker Jr. and David Finney, officiating. Interment Oak Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Coverhill Ambulance Association.
