Dear Kahler Family,
I was a student of Mrs. Kahler's in 6th and 7th grade (1998-1990). My mother was cleaning out some drawers recently and found my 7th grade report card, which included the most lovely note from your mother. I have kept this note on my desk for weeks. Yesterday, I listened to a Ted talk that encouraged people to reach out to someone who made a real difference in their life, and I immediately thought of your mother. I was going to try and contact her today and found this sad news of her passing. I am writing because I want you to know that the two years I spent in your mother's class were magical. I learned to write because of your mother. She encouraged me to read everything. She took the time to suggest a special project for me before 6th grade (reading and discussing The Yearling) because she knew that I had tested well in English. I adored her and I cherish her note.
Please know that your family is in my prayers. I am so very sorry for your loss.
Sincere regards,
Samantha Higgins Coyne
