PIPON, Joseph John “Joe”, Sr., 72, Geistown, died March 16, 2014, at Golden Living Center, after a year- long battle with a paralyzing stroke (lock-in syndrome). Born February 11, 1942, in Windber, son of Steve G. and Stella (Bugara) Pipon. Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Mischio; mother-in-law, Mary Zupanchick; sisters-in-law, Mary Agnes “Toots” Domencic, Rose Zupanchick and Christine Moors; brothers-in-law Anthony Zupanchick, Joe Domencic and James Yuhas; niece, Kathleen Mischio; and nephew, Frankie Colosimo. Survived by his wife, Gloria Jean (Zupanchick) Pipon, whom he married on July 6, 1968; children, Maria Yost, and husband, David, Colorado, Joseph Pipon, Jr., Johnstown, Jennifer Pipon, California, Christine Hinterliter, and husband, Brett, Johnstown and Pamela Barrett, NC; grandchildren, Miranda and Sabrina Yost, Tanner and Alexa Hinterliter and Brooke Barrett; brothers, Steve Pipon, VA, Ted Pipon, and wife, Renie, PA, and Andrew Pipon, and wife, Lois, DE; sister, Judy Colosimo, FL; brother-in-law, Rick Moors, NM; sister-in-law, Carolyn Zupanchick, Johnstown; as well as many nieces and nephews. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. He was a member of Richland American Legion Post 849, a former member of Windber Pool League, Windber Slovac Club, Windber VFW, Windber Polish Falcons, Windber Polish Club and the 942 Club. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation and the Hiram G. Andrews Center. He was a US Army veteran, having served in the Cuban Missile Crisis. The family would like to thank the kind and warm care given to Joe by the Golden Living Center, especially Ashlie and Rosie. He fought the hard fight and has now won peace. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Henderson Funeral Home East Hills, 2503 Bedford St. where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Rev. David S. Peles, celebrant. Entombment, St. Joseph Mausoleum. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of Charles Menoher Post 155 VFW.
