Carol E. (Layton) Wassel

Carol E. (Layton) Wassel, 75, passed away at her home in Richland Township on November 6, 2017. Born March 2, 1942, in Johnstown. She was preceded in death by parents, George and Bertha (Young) Layton; husband, Joseph G.; son, Joseph George “JG” Wassel, II; sister Bonnie (Layton) Straw; nephews, Gregg Layton and Donald “Donnie Selich; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Rodgers. Survived by daughter Donna married to William Rito, St. Benedict; brother, Larry married to Doris; nephew, Mark Selich married to Patti, Arizona; sister-in-law, Betsy Layton, Johnstown; and many beloved nieces and nephews  from both sides of her family; and her “BFF”, Mary Lou Burkhart. Carol retired in 2010 after 45 successful years in business with her beloved husband, Joe “Mr. Kenny”. Carol had a full life including modeling, flight attendant, and working in retail. She and Joe made Kenny’s Sewing and Vacuum Center a household name. She was known for her signature “bun” hairdo. Anyone who referred to Carol, that didn’t know her name, always mentioned her hair. Carol was the most giving  and forgiving person you could meet. She never held a grudge and it served her well. She always believed and lived by the words that “everything happens for a reason, and everything happens when it is supposed to.” She loved to sew, and was an avid fisherwoman. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Friends received from 2 until the hour of service at 6pm Thursday, at John Henderson Company Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., with Norbert Pikovsky officiating.
